Ingredients

6 servings
  • 90/10 Ground Beef(454g)
  • Chili powder(15g)
  • Cumin, Ground(5g)
  • Paprika, Smoked(5g)
  • Garlic powder(5g)
  • Onion powder(5g)
  • Oregano, Dried(3g)
  • Cayenne Pepper, Ground(1g)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Mexican Blend Cheese(240g)
  • Flour Tortillas
  • Oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. 1Divide the ground beef into 6 loose balls and set aside.
  2. 2In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and cayenne pepper; set the spice mixture aside.
  3. 3Place a flour tortilla on a work surface and top with a handful of the Mexican blend cheese. Place one beef ball in the center, then use your fingers to spread it into a thin, even layer over the cheese. Repeat with the remaining 5 tortillas, beef, and cheese, then sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over each assembled taco.
  4. 4Heat a large cast iron or nonstick skillet over medium-high heat for 2–3 minutes until very hot, then drizzle in a small amount of oil and tilt to coat.
  5. 5Quickly place the first taco beef-side down into the skillet, then use the back of a sturdy spatula or burger press to smash the beef firmly into the tortilla, twisting slightly to spread it evenly. Cook over medium-high heat for 2–3 minutes until the beef is deeply browned and crispy.
  6. 6Flip the taco carefully and cook on the tortilla side over medium-high heat for 2 minutes until the tortilla is golden brown and crispy.
  7. 7Transfer the finished taco to a clean plate and repeat steps 5–6 with the remaining 5 tacos, cooking one at a time.
  8. 8Divide the cooked smash tacos evenly among 6 plates or airtight containers while still warm and serve with your favorite toppings.
